NATIONAL MEDAL FOR ALEX FORREST

Longridge Golf Club’s Alex Forrest enhanced her growing golf reputation by winning England Golf’s Grand Medal Final at Frilford Heath GC, Oxfordshire.

The event celebrates grassroots golf, drawing a large field from around the country. Following excellent medal performances at Longridge in 2015, Alex, who plays with a handicap of four, qualified via a regional final at Lancaster.

Originally a reserve for the final, she received an early start time before carding a net 73 with her three birdies on the back nine being crucial when she dropped a shot at the last hole. She then had the agonising wait as the whole field had to complete their rounds before the result was finalised.

When the dust settled, eighteen year old Alex was tied with players from Staffordshire and Surrey, but beat them with that better back nine to win by the closest of margins. Having completed her golf studies course at Myerscough College, a national title is a great first step to her career.
